From the day I began at ERA until the day I left, I was working on the terra-cotta conservation of this magnificent Toronto landmark. Together with a dedicated team I supervised the division of the facades into intelligible units and identified each of the typical masonry units constituting the terra cotta façade. Structural/envelope analysis occurred in many locations but particularly at the parapet and at the apron – the lower projecting cornice atop the second floor elevation. The work also required the division of the overall exterior into economically and logistically divisible phases. Our team managed the documentation, testing, and intial phase which was the Queen Street elevation. Great building, great site; wonderful that the client appreciated them both.
