Grandview School, Preston, Cambridge

Dan Chalykoff Heritage Consultancy Project
Relief Work in Brick Wall

The prominence of the building’s situation speaks to its importance in the neighbourhood. Indeed, it would be hard to overstate as Grand View School is the hub around which the spokes and rim of this Preston neighbourhood revolve. If Grand View School were absent, the logic and physical cohesion of the neighbourhood would also be absent; in short this part of the village of Preston would be another senseless, orphaned suburban fragment. With Grand View standing, the history of the neighbourhood and its street logic are obvious for the school is clearly the anchoring landmark of the neighbourhood.
