Seaton House, 3083 Lakeshore Road, Port Nelson, Burlington, ca, 1912 (Designated)

Dan Chalykoff Heritage Consultancy Project

I was hired by the Planning Department of the City of Burlington to provide an opinion on the cultural heritage value to be found in this beautiful Arts & Crafts house designed by Wm. Walsh. Walsh was then an apprenticed architect, whose firm was employed by his wife’s uncle, developer W. D. Flatt. Walsh designed the next two houses going west on Lakeshore and, with the firm that employed him, he did Lakehurst Villa a magnificent Arts & Crafts mansion that used to sit across the road from this house. It was demolished in the 1990s.

I prepared a Heritage Evaluation Study, I helped some very competent city planners negotiate an interim agreement with the owners, and then I gave Expert Testimony at the Conservation Review Board (CRB). As a result of our victory at the CRB, the house was designated, still stands, and is once again occupied.
